As usual Moody Gardens rocks the Holidays :)!  If you haven’t had the opportunity to check out one of their holiday buffets I VERY strongly recommend it!  Nothing better than enjoying an awesome Thanksgiving or Christmas meal without the hassles of cooking and the messy kitchen!  This year we’re going to go for the Thanksgiving lunch and we’re also thinking about heading down Christmas day to stay over at the hotel and take in all of the awesome Holiday activities.

Speaking of, here are some of the awesome events to check out on the island :)!

MOODY GARDENS ICE LAND: ICE SCULPTURES WITH SPONGEBOB SQUAREPANTS Walk through an icy wonderland featuring elaborately carved towering ice sculptures, ice slides and more (Nov 14 – Jan 10)  If you haven’t taken the kids to check this out yet, you need to put this high on the list!!  If you went last year, don’t worry they’ve totally changed it up :)!  It’s a chilly 9 degrees in the exhibit, they do provide you with a heavy parka but, I would recommend bringing gloves, a scarf and a hat.  We love the ice slides and the new addition of an ice bar (they just need to add cocktails ;)!!)

FESTIVAL OF LIGHTS AT MOODY GARDENS Explore the largest holiday lighting festival on the Gulf Coast, featuring a mile-long trail of a million lights, ice-skating and more (Nov 14 – Jan 10)

THE GRAND 1894 OPERA HOUSE HOLIDAY SEASON Choose from a world of holiday entertainment – Tony Bennett, An Olde English Christmas with Herman’s Hermits, Charles Dickens’ A Christmas Carol, Rudolph the Red-Nosed Reindeer, Asleep At the Wheel’s Merry Texas Christmas Y’all, John Pinero in VINCE: The Life and Times of Vince Lombardi and more – presented in Galveston’s magnificent, historic theatre (Nov 17 – Jan 9)

HOLIDAY SPLASH AT SCHLITTERBAHN WATERPARK Enjoy a sprinkle of holiday cheer while making a splash at the world’s best indoor waterpark. See “Surfing Santa”, costumed holiday characters, crafts, holiday meal packages and more (Nov 27- Jan 3 with “Surfing Santa” Nov 27-Dec 23)

42ND ANNUAL DICKENS ON THE STRAND Travel back in time as downtown Galveston’s Strand Street is transformed into the Victorian London of Charles Dickens with this exciting festival (Dec 4-6.)  Our family looks forward to this event every year.  Head over during the day the day to catch all the family friendly events, like the bed races, the Christmas Parade, meet santa, magic shows, play in real snow, and oh the food……AH-MAY-ZING!!  If you’ve never had one, you need to try a Scotch Egg, a hardboiled egg wrapped in Sausage, coated and deep fried.  Lots of great brews too.  Come dressed in period attire and get your ticket at half off.  One thing to keep in mind…..our daughters loved the magic show, so much so that when my eldest was asked to draw her favorite holiday tradition in 1st grade she decided to draw the man lying on a bed of nails…..needless to say that was a little emberrasing ;)!!

SANTA TRAIN AT THE GALVESTON RAILROAD MUSEUM Welcome Santa as he comes to town aboard the Galveston Railroad Museum’s Harborside Express train (Dec 12)

HOLIDAY WITH THE CRANES Celebrate the magnificent 4-feet-tall Sandhill Cranes that arrive just in time for the holidays, with special events from sunrise to sunset (Dec. 11-13)

A MAGICAL CHRISTMAS DINNER AND SHOW AT MOODY GARDENS Experience magic, singers and dancers with Master Illusionist Curt Miller and Friends (Dec 17-27)

SANTA HUSTLE HALF MARATHON AND 5K Run with thousands of Santas through the streets of downtown Galveston and along the Gulf waters (Dec 20)  I’m not a runner but I’ve been told this is a really fun race and most folks walk or jog at a leisurly pace.
